## Magnificent Math Workshop

Math class is a hands-on time using a variety of manipulatives. Our Pearson Math program encourages whole group instruction, small group activities, and independent work.. Pearson Math supports the Common Core State Standards providing a consistent and clear understanding of what students are expected to learn in Mathematics.

## Math Workshop

Each day, we begin with a mini lesson focusing on a math concept. We then work in small groups with math manipulatives that reinforce concepts and vocabulary, yet encourage imaginative thinking and exploration. Math Station Time is about 20 minutes with a brief sharing time that follows. This sharing time gives students time to "reflect on what they have done that day to deepen their learning." (

We use an interactive mimio lesson to introduce a math concept which is based on the Common Core Curriculum. The kindergartners meet on the carpet and often use clipboards as we work together. They are given the opportunitiy to work individually or in small groups.

## Math Stations

Students work in small groups during Math Station time. We begin the year working in a different Math Station each day. Math Stations reinforce and extend skills and concepts taught during our mini lessons. Math Stations include:

1. Math Tubs (Manipulatives)

2. Smartboard & Ipads

3. Puzzles & Blocks

4. Art Center

## Math Journals

Every child has a notebook used for illustrating math story problems. Each day, the students are given a math prompt that focuses on math concepts already covered in class. An example of a prompt might be: "I can draw a picture using only triangles."

## Math Computer Lab

Students work in our school's Computer Lab each day for 30 minutes. They work at their own pace in the IXL Math program and the SME Math program.
