Important Parent Information
School Hours

School Attendance
Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Most first grade learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Please view school as a priority, and make sure your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency.
Absences
Whenever your child is absent, you must send a note explaining the absence when your child returns to school.
Changes in Transportation
If you plan to pick up a child who normally rides the bus or you wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you must send a written note to school. Please do not rely on your child to give me the message or emailing me. Often, I don't have time to check my e-mails until the end of the day. If I do not receive a written note, then I must send your child home by his/her usual mode of transportation.
Outdoor Recess
The children will be going out for recess every day unless it is raining or extremely cold. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothes for the day.
Lunch
Our lunch time is 10:50-11:15. The children may buy lunch at school, or bring one from home. Menus will be sent home every month. Children who bring lunches from home may buy milk at school. Each child will be assigned an ID number to be used in the cafeteria to keep track of his/her account.

Money
On occasion, it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send the money in a sealed envelope in their folder with the following information:
*Your child's first and last name
*The amount of money
*The purpose for the money (lunch, book orders, field trip...etc)
*Teacher's name
Book Orders
Scholastic Book Order forms will be sent home with your child once a month. This is a chance for you to buy quality books for your child at low prices. Plus, as an added bonus, our class earns credit for each dollar we spend which will go toward more books and CDs for our room. If you would like to order, simply fill out the form, send a check made out to Scholastic Book Club, and return it to school in an envelope. Please do not feel as if you must buy every month.
There is a link on our home page for ordering online.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. If you wish, your child may bring treats for the class on his/her birthday. Cookies and brownies seem to work best. You may also send a drink. Make sure you bring cups and napkins, too. Please send a note two or three days in advance so that I can give you an exact number of students and set a time for the class to celebrate. We celebrate summer birthdays at the end of the school year. Party invitations can only be passed out at school if everyone is invited.
Report Cards
Students will receive Report Cards four times during the school year....after every 9 weeks. The Report Card will evaluate how your child is progressing academically, socially, and physically. Please look over the Report Card, sign it, and return it inside the envelope to school. If you have any questions, please send a note or call me at school (538-4120). I will get back with you as soon as possible.
Parent/Teacher Communication
Throughout the school year, I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, weekly newsletters, progress reports, Report Cards, parent-teacher conferences, and e-mail. You may also e-mail me at [email protected]
I am available for conferences from 8:15 to 8:30 most mornings. If you would like to schedule a conference, call the school at 538-4120 to get an appointment time. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Parent Volunteers
During the school year, we will have a variety of special classroom activities. Please support them by sending supplies or treats. The Room Mothers will be contacting you about room parties and other events.
Exciting Year
Enjoy this year and let your child know how important school is to you.
I am looking forward to a great year
with your child!
